As a scientist with college degree in Astronomy, minor in Physics and Mathematics, I was appalled to find folks telling outright falsities and presenting bad science to bolster suspicion of our known accepted reality - that the Earth is a beautiful blue globe.

This blog clearly shows scientific proofs that debunk everything that flat Earth proponents claim.  Here we also expose the comments those YouTube video channels delete, because they don't want you to see them.

The Earth is not flat.  That claim is a conspiracy theory perpetrated by ignorant people who have ulterior personal motives and agendas.

The Earth is a beautiful blue spheroid globe spinning on an axis 23.5° once each day, and orbiting the Sun every 365.25 days.

Update: August 2019:

The truth finally comes out of Mike Cavanaugh validating all we have said in this and our other articles on the FECORE laser test.  

As Mike Cavanaugh finally explains in this August 2019 interview with Sly Sparkane, the goal of the laser test was to hit the distance target.  Nothing else.

Our note:  That does not prove the earth is flat.  The laser can be aimed up/down and left/right.  Point it above the horizon line any way you want just to get the laser light seen at the target location.
Aimed and traveling over the horizon the laser beam is refracted by the atmosphere and subject to other thermal distortions, before its ever widening beam (laser beam divergence) makes it to the distant target.
This only proved that the laser was bright enough to be seen from those distances.  Nothing else.

“What was the ultimate goal of the test?  Was it to see the laser at the other end or was it to hit a target?”

March 18th - FECORE declares success with their 12-km Lake Balaton test (not 67-km as advertised).
Or, how to disguise failure as success.

Abstract:

The FECORE team did not attempt to prove that the Earth is flat at Lake Balaton.

During the entire course of the experiment they did not use any of the standard Geodetic survey tools; such as an internationally approved Theodolite/Auto level, GPS tracker, level staff, ranging rod, retro-reflector and surveyor’s tripod.

They did not place level staffs or sighting targets at various marker points along the Lake Balaton shoreline, to demonstration progressive tracking of Earth flatness over length.

They did not stake laser reflectors at various locations along the shoreline, and target them with a laser beam to demonstrate that the beam is truly pointed parallel to the water's surface over distance.  That is a primary requirement to corroborate flatness.  

The FECORE team did however, attempt thru a single measurement, to imply "proof by contradiction."

Proof by contradiction is a form of indirect proof, that establishes the truth or validity of a proposition. It starts by assuming that the opposite proposition is true, and then shows that such an assumption leads to a contradiction.

The error in this type of approach is the "assumption" that the Earth can only have two possible valid shapes - either flat or spherical.  Attempting to prove that the Earth is not spherical, does not authenticate that the Earth is flat.  And other flat Earth supporters willingly testify that the Earth is concave, convex, or undoubtedly a flat plane with as yet unmeasured total dimensions. 

The shore-to-shore laser test should not have been wrapped up at the 12-km distance mark.  Data at 12-km is not conclusive.  That is around the FUZZY distance where, a) optical refraction, b) no precise measurements of source and target height above the water line, and c) no exact distance between source and target established - create a situation where a few meters can be argued about back and forth.  
This is what they delivered, and why their claim will forever be in dispute

To definitively prove flatness shore-to-shore measurements at 20-km, 30-km, 40-km, 50-km, 60-km and further are required.  But FECORE did not render that.

We at FlatEarthLunacy know that even if Lake Balaton had indeed frozen solid, this experiment would have been a failure - because a laser is not the correct choice of instrument for this type of experiment.

Due to laser beam divergence and atmospheric turbulence, out past 6-miles it would be practically impossible to keep a laser beam parallel to the frozen surface.

For a laser, even a collimated beam does not remain pencil thin forever.  It diverges (spreads out) with distance.  And the round outer-edge of the laser divergent beam is effected by optical refraction.   

The correct tool for this type of experiment is to use the same equipment that a professional surveyor uses. Theodolite/Auto level, GPS tracker, level staff, ranging rod, retro-reflector and surveyor’s tripod.

A standard Auto level (shown below) has a total measurement angle of uncertainly (plus or minus) of 0.5 arc-seconds. That is equivalent to 0.0024 MRAD.

Compared to the FECORE laser with an advertised specification beam divergence of 0.08 MRAD, the Auto level is 33 times more accurate.

Always use an Auto level over a laser.

2) Life lessons from a Total Failure.

Here is the "World Class" experiment FECORE pledged to deliver to corporate and individual donors, in January and February 2018.  But not a single detail of what they presented, was delivered.  

The original January target date was missed because there was no ice on Lake Balaton.  BUT - they should have known that since easily obtainable weather history is available, and it shows that only for 1 in 10 years does it freeze.  

This demonstrates a deficiency in proper planning.

No ice
Not a single team assembled
No 66.88-km laser shot 
No boats
No calibration done
No independent professional surveyor
No guarantee that the laser beam parallel to the water's surface
No atmospheric measurements made, so no refraction evaluation

Yes - they publicized this as a world record setting event, to get your donation money

3) What did they pledge to do, verses what did they actually deliver?

Claim 1 is FALSE = That this FECORE laser test is the longest in history.

The United States left 3 laser retro-reflectors on the Moon's surface and the Soviet Union left two.  To obtain the precise distance between the Earth and the Moon, laser were shot from the following observatories targeting these reflectors at distances of 385,000.6 km (239,228.3 miles).

It was found that the Moon is moving away from the Earth at the rate of 3.8 cm per year.

Since the angular momentum on the Earth - Moon system is preserved, that means the Earth's rotation has to slow down to accommodate for the Moon's increasing distance.  But don't worry, because we are only talking about micro-seconds per year.

Lunar Laser Ranging experiment:
The first successful tests were carried out in 1962 when a team from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology succeeded in observing laser pulses reflected from the Moon's surface using a laser with a millisecond pulse length. Similar measurements were obtained later the same year by a Soviet team at the Crimean Astrophysical Observatory using a Q-switched ruby laser. Greater accuracy was achieved following the installation of a retroreflector array on July 21, 1969, by the crew of Apollo 11, and two more retroreflector arrays left by the Apollo 14 and Apollo 15 missions have also contributed to the experiment. Successful lunar laser range measurements to the retroreflectors were first reported by the 3.1 m telescope at Lick Observatory, Air Force Cambridge Research Laboratories Lunar Ranging Observatory in Arizona, the Pic du Midi Observatory in France, the Tokyo Astronomical Observatory, and McDonald Observatory in Texas.

For FECORE's plan B & C, their maximum laser range was actually only 8.8 km.

Claim 2 is TRUE = that the FECORE team has been working on this project even before the January official start date.  In fact, they were on the lake in 2016 doing some laser testing from land to boat.  

That test failed at the 6 km mark, where could no longer see their laser beam.

+Dr. Zack, If the laser is say 8-feet above the water line at the starting position, you have to show that the center of that divergent beam remains 8-feet above the water, for the entire water line length to the opposing shore. You need a boat to measure this for the entire path across the lake. Otherwise just seeing the laser light on the opposite shore really means nothing. The laser could be pointed slightly upward etc. Without these measurements and you showing evidence to back this up, your experimental results will remain in controversy and not be believed.


Dr. Zack said,
Charles Lambert a boat will not show any beam; the beam disappears you can only see it if you stand in front of it. And you can't measure it unless you have a board and we are talking about more than 5 meters of divergence it's not something you can measure from a boat. So we cannot do that. If you can, you are welcome to come and show us. And seeing the source of the light from the other side means everything to us. If it means nothing to you then I am sorry. We can't help you. Do it yourself and show us. We are talking about almost half of km of curvature. And not 2 or 3 meters of curvature. The laser would have to go through the earth to be seen from the other side.

+Dr. Zack, using a laser, because of beam divergence (even with collimator) is flawed from the beginning. if you cannot accurately measure the center position of the laser beam across the water's surface all along the path to the opposite shore, then you cannot claim that the beam is parallel to the water’s surface - and that invalidates what you are trying to do. If the laser beam is pointed even slightly up or down, then your results are uncertain. Your statement, "And seeing the source of the light from the other side means everything to us" is not a valid test by itself, unless you have exact measurements of the a) light source height above the water line length, b) the observers eye or camera height above the water line length, and c) the exact distance between the two. d) Temperature, humidity and air pressure measurements should be made over the entire water distance length to account for refraction. But I have never seen a flat Earth refraction calculation yet, so how are you going to account for that? All atmospheric refraction tables and calcs are based on a spherical Earth atmosphere configuration, not for a flat Earth model which would be different. kind regards,

Plan B & C Observations - notes here that have not been evaluated:

As of March 3, 2018 - only 1 video has been published about this experiment.   Nothing from Globebusters, FECORE, or any other channels. 

Proving the Earth is flat ..  TEAM FEcore, by Bastiaan Laros published YouTube on February 25, 2018.  No other videos from him.
They see a blue laser at distance 7.7 km according to the video.  The beam diameter is huge.   The green laser was not visible at all.
Bastiaan says, "flat earth is going to win.  There is a God and there is a dome over it."   "Maybe you can see it (blue beam) now on the wall?"
What was not mentioned in the video - the location of the lasers and the observers - but they did mention a distance - the height of the blue and green laser above the water line - the height of the observers above the water line - no temperature or atmospheric measurement
