Today folks who describe themselves as flat-earthers are popping up more in the news. It seems to be a fad with newcomers hopping on the bandwagon to make money.
According to current dictionaries, they are defined as:
A person who believes or advocates the theory that the Earth is flat
A person who believes or advocates an outlandish, discredited theory
A person who refuses to acknowledge the truth despite overwhelming evidence
That being the case, who are these folks and what motivates them to disregard and ridicule verifiable evidence that the Earth is a globe?
Based on our 6-years of personal interaction with flat Earth folks, we now have a clear view of who these people are.
Of the estimated 210,000* flat Earth world wide supporters, the majority of them reside in the United States. Here is where they live:
United States = ................................53%

the other 191 countries combined = 22%
The United States has the highest percentage (by population) of flat Earth supporters in the world, simply because Fundamentalist Christians make up a large portion of the total USA population. Fundamentalist Christians are the leading flat Earth advocates.
Who are these Flat Earth people:
Fundamentalist Christians. For them if you believe in God, you must also accept on faith the literal world view according to the Bible.

Because of their religious belief Fundamentalist Christians must dismiss SCIENCE as untrue, since it sometimes contradicts the personal mental world view that they have created for themselves.
Some have said, science is an abomination to God.
These are the same folks that are against LGTB, gay rights, transgender, abortion, etc.
So they blame grand conspiracies for deliberately hiding God and the true shape of the universe.
Most are religious people, uneducated and already angry with science.

This all started around the year 1610 when Galileo used his telescope to observe the moons of Jupiter. The four moons revolving around Jupiter clearly displayed that the Earth was not the center of the universe. He begged the Clergy to look thru the telescope and see for themselves, but they refused. He was later forced to recant his statements upon threat of death.
Then around 1838 in England, Samuel Rowbotham conducted the famous Bedford Canal level experiment, where he claimed the Earth was flat. After Rowbotham’s death Lady Elizabeth Blount established The Universal Zetetic Society also in England. Every meeting was started with Bible scripture readings followed by prayer. Later in the middle of the 20th century Samuel Shenton created the International Flat Earth Society.
When NASA came out with space pictures of Earth in the 1960’s, he claimed that they were all fake.
Various flat Earth societies exist today. The advent of YouTube, Facebook, and the other social networks available today has suddenly pushed flat Earth into the spotlight. The latest growth spurt started in 2015.
This year 2017 saw the first International Flat Earth conference in the USA. England is planning a conference for 2018. So now there is real money making opportunity in it.
The financial sponsor of the Flat Earth International Conference 2017 was Ralph Riekl, the CEO of Metatron Inc.
He approached Patricia Steers and Mark Sargent a few years ago looking for a new business plan; how to monetize and make money on YouTube channels.
He claims to be a flat earth agnostic, so he does not support or deny a flat Earth.
He made a lot of money creating mobile apps (iMobile) for Eckert Tolle and others.
Patricia Steers, a leading flat earth advocate, lives in a ½ million-dollar house owned by Metatron Inc. Some of the major flat Earth channels are getting about $1,500 each month in donations from supporters. There is an attempt now to do videos full time with a livable salary.

When they say "Research Flat Earth," they really mean watch more YouTube videos on the subject (made by their advocates) and visit other conspiracy web sites on that topic. They do not mean - go to school and take a real physics / astronomy / math class.

people with no science training making up all kinds of crazy theories.
people inventing new laws of nature and forces that don’t really exist.
Truthers – those that believe the government and public education is meant to keep people as slaves. They profess to be the only ones that know the truth. They distrust almost everything. Anti-authoritarian and insecure.

I noticed that these folks were part of a cultural phenomenon of discontentment with life. They want to blame government, big business and big money, anyone but themselves. The folks who put on the Flat Earth International Conference in North Carolina, are all motivated by Fundamentalism. For them, it's all about God verses science. Christianity, Judaism and Islam came about to civilizations that were monarchical in nature.
A monarchy is a country that is ruled by a monarch. A monarchy is a system or form of government.
A monarch, such as a king or queen, rules the kingdom or empire.
So naturally man’s image of God that developed in those cultures was also monarchical; God as King of Kings, Lord of Lords.
According to Genesis the world is an artifact, it is made. There is only the creator and the created; the making process.
But in the Chinese and Hindu religion, the world is a constant growing entity; the living process.
This difference can help to explain why Christianity is at odds with our scientifically verified globe Earth (which is viewed as contrary to Genesis), and why the other cultures/religions of the world are not participating in the flat Earth conspiracy.

Is there really good and evil?
When you adopt a belief system the friend/enemy dichotomy scenario automatically comes along with it. That is because not everyone will believe what you do.
A belief system is a view of life, or prism, that you have constructed to work from and see the world through - rather than innocent non-biased true actual experience itself.
