Introduction

Dear Visitors,                                                                                                                                    April 21, 2017

Thank you for stopping at FlatEarthLunacy.com

As a scientist with college degree in Astronomy, minor in Physics and Mathematics, I was appalled to find folks telling outright falsities and presenting bad science to bolster suspicion of our known accepted reality - that the Earth is a beautiful blue globe.

This blog clearly shows scientific proofs that debunk everything that flat Earth proponents claim.  Here we also expose the comments those YouTube video channels delete, because they don't want you to see them.

The Earth is not flat.  That claim is a conspiracy theory perpetrated by ignorant people who have ulterior personal motives and agendas.

The Earth is a beautiful blue spheroid globe spinning on an axis 23.5° once each day, and orbiting the Sun every 365.25 days.

FLAT EARTH REFLECTIONS (Robert Bassano) - ASTROPHSYICS @ 45,000 Feet: SOFIA Wavelength Capability - 5

Dear Robert Bassano (FLAT EARTH REFLECTIONS aka  PLANATE VERITAS),

Concerning your claim number 5...

5) Chandra is out there looking at another spacecraft. Not out in space. Which means I was lied to by HST Manager and Chandra can view HST. Chandra is pointed back at the earth. To prove that assertion please answer Question 1 listed below.

My challenge to you -
Here is where you can see the list of objects that the Chandra X-Ray Observatory is scheduled to observe and study during the month of June and July 2016...
http://cxc.harvard.edu/target_lists/stscheds/index.html

So now point out (post on your YouTube site PLANATE VERITAS) which of those entries are the "other spacecraft" that you claim Chandra is looking at instead.

Provide your proof, as to what and where (celestial coordinates) you claim Chandra is looking.

Getting time on the Chandra X-Ray Observatory starts with a scientific request for proposal, by Ph.D and other researchers. They list what they want to observe and why. The Chandra review committee then approves and schedules what observation date & time period will be allotted to them. The Chandra X-Ray Observatory is just not sitting there doing nothing. Hundreds of researchers the world wide compete for time on the Observatory.

There are important operational differences between imaging performed by X ray telescopes and those performed by optical telescopes, even space borne ones such as the Hubble Space Telescope. An optical telescope will typically track its target, and accumulate counts in an image. Any variation in the telescope’s pointing direction will degrade the final image quality. In contrast, an X-ray telescope’s pointing direction varies slightly with time, deliberately smearing the target source’s image over different parts of the detector. The image is then reconstructed by adjusting the positions of each photon by taking into account the exact pointing direction of the spacecraft at the photo’s arrival time. This image reconstruction is possible because the fundamental X-ray data product is not an image but an ‘event list’ in which the positions and arrival times of individual photons are recorded.

Here are the instruments aboard the Chandra X-Ray Observatory...
High Resolution Mirror Assembly (HRMA)
Advanced CCD Imaging Spectrometer (ACIS)
High Resolution Camera (HRC)
High Energy Transmission Grating (HETG)
Low Energy Transmission Grating (LETG)

Note the difference between the visible, near infrared, and x-ray energies and wavelengths:

The visible spectrum is the small portion of the electromagnetic spectrum that is visible to the human eye. Electromagnetic radiation in this range of wavelengths is called visible light or simply light. A typical human eye will respond to wavelengths from about 390 to 700 nm. In terms of frequency, this corresponds to a band in the vicinity of 430-770 THz.

Update: September 14, 2020

SOFIA is not getting as much observation time as originally envisioned...

OIG: NASA’s Management of the Stratospheric Observatory for Infrared Astronomy Program

The Stratospheric Observatory for Infrared Astronomy (SOFIA) is an airborne observatory housing a 106-inch telescope mounted onboard a Boeing 747SP that makes observations from between 38,000 and 45,000 feet, putting it above 99 percent of water vapor that interferes with ground-based infrared observations. The aircraft is operated out of NASA’s Armstrong Flight Research Center in Palmdale, California, and is currently equipped with six interchangeable instruments that can be upgraded or replaced. SOFIA is used by astronomers to study astronomical objects and phenomena including star birth and death, formation of new solar systems, identification of complex molecules in space, nebulas and galaxies, and transient events like eclipses.

The SOFIA Program is a partnership between NASA—within the Science Mission Directorate’s (SMD) Astrophysics portfolio—and the German Aerospace Center and operates in cooperation with the Universities Space Research Association (USRA) and German SOFIA Institute. NASA began development of SOFIA in 1991 and the Program achieved full operational capability in 2014, 13 years behind schedule with development costs over $1 billion (more than 300 percent over the initial cost estimate). Because SOFIA has experienced ongoing operational and technical challenges and has not met science output expectations, NASA has questioned whether its $83 million in annual operating costs could be put to better use. Likewise, the President’s Budget Request has proposed terminating SOFIA on multiple occasions including most recently for fiscal year 2021. However, in the past Congress has continued to fund the Program...
