John le Bon - JLB1669 | Most Polite 'Flat Earth' Debate Thus Far?
Dear John le Bon and guests,
Fact check = You FAIL
Your statement at time mark 0.55, "This demonstrates that Archimedes was a flat Earther, because he said - give me a place to stand on, wherever, outside of the Earth, and a big enough lever, and I will move the Earth.
Fact:
While Archimedes did not invent the lever, he gave an explanation of the principle involved in his work
Archimedes' work on levers caused him to remark: "Give me a place to stand on, and a lever long enough, and I will move the Earth"
Archimedes NEVER STATED THE FOLLOWING WORDS THAT "YOU ADDED" YOURSELF TO THE QUOETE -
"wherever, outside of the Earth,"
So why do you lie?
Archimedes followed Hipparchus in agreeing that the earth was round and went around the sun.
That is an established historical fact.

Also, Archimedes' theory and work on the shape of fluids is based on gravity and the Earth being a sphere...
In the first part of the scroll, Archimedes spells out the law of equilibrium of fluids, and proves that water will adopt a spherical form around a center of gravity.
This was probably an attempt at explaining the observation made by Greek astronomers that the Earth is round.
His fluids were not self-gravitating: he assumed the existence of a point towards which all things fall and derived the spherical shape.
