john armstrong (aka flatearthjohnny) - flat earth, debunking globe science in less than 4 minutes
Dear john armstrong,
Fact check = You FAIL
Your statement, "Computer systems, software programs and code - for use by NASA and any other science agency, is based on the assumption that the Earth is a sphere that orbits the Sun at a distance of 93-millions miles."
… is 100% wrong.
The Earth is a sphere that orbits the Sun at a distance of 93-millions miles - is NOT AN ASSUMPTION, but A PROVEN FACT.
It is the reality of our solar system compiled from (not computers) but thousands of physics experiments and astronomical observations made by hundreds of people over many many years.
Here are some FACTS:
Eratosthenes in the 3rd century BC determined that the Earth was a sphere (long before the invention of computers).
Isaac Newton in the 17th century determined that gravity caused the Earth and other planets to orbit around the Sun (long before the invention of computers).
Johannes Kepler in the 17th century determined, from thousands of celestial measures made by Tycho Brahe, that the Earth traveled in an ELLIPTICAL PATH (not a circle) around the Sun (long before the invention of computers).
In 1608 Dutch eyeglass maker Hans Lippershey invented the refracting telescope. In 1610 Galileo used one to observe the four satellites of Jupiter revolving in an orbit around that planet.
That verified the heliocentric view; that the Earth revolves in an orbit around the Sun. Galileo saw for himself that less massive satellites were in orbit around the more massive planet - Jupiter (long before the invention of computers).
In 1655 Christiaan Huygens discovered that the planet Saturn had a moon. It was later named Titan. Also, the rings of Saturn are composed of thousands of small ice crystals in orbit around the planet (long before the invention of computers).
In 1705 Edmund Halley determined, from laborious astronomical observation over decades of time, that the same comet (later named Halley’s Comet) was returning to near inner solar system orbit, every 76-years (long before the invention of computers).
In 1801 Italian astronomer Giuseppe Piazzi found a small asteroid (later named Ceres) in orbit around the Sun, between Mars and Jupiter (long before the invention of computers).
In 1838 Friedrich Bessel successfully used the method of stellar parallax, the effect of Earth’s annual movement around the Sun, to calculate the distance to 61 Cygni, the first star other than the Sun to have its distance measured (long before the invention of computers).
etc. etc.
Conclusion: Get a life and divorce your distorted world view (based on your literal interpretation of the Bible) and come into the 21st century.
